German city offers free housing: who can apply.
According to The Sun: Their plan is to give apartments to anyone who can prove they have a creative spirit and the desire to establish a home in a city where half of the buildings are already sold for just one euro, and many others are empty.
Drišner added that an influx of younger people could revitalize the city and bring it freshness. The local authorities have already organized a large approach and hikes to the mountains for their new residents, following government initiatives.
The population of the city has significantly decreased, and this free housing program is an attempt to stop the trend of declining population and rejuvenate the city with new life. Perhaps this will serve as a platform for new ideas, projects, and cultural exchange that will help Eisenhüttenstadt to revive.
