Ukrainian Lawmaker Demands End to 'Luxury' Draft Exemptions for War Propagandists.
Danilo Getmantsev's Statement
According to Novyny.live: Danilo Getmantsev, head of the parliamentary finance committee, has condemned the practice of 'luxury' draft exemptions for propagandists, calling for its complete eradication in Ukraine. In an interview with Novyny.LIVE, he stated that the case of a propagandist receiving a deferment at a state enterprise linked to a military memorial cemetery is unacceptable.
Getmantsev argues that any attempts to secure illicit draft deferments within state institutions, especially at such sensitive sites, are not only immoral but also damage Ukraine's international reputation.
"This phenomenon must be rooted out entirely. No one at a state enterprise or institution should be able to arrange a fake deferment while simultaneously promoting war," he said. The committee chairman stressed that so-called 'war hawks' engaged in propaganda have no right to receive such privileges from state structures. This issue is particularly sensitive as Ukraine continues its defense against Russia's full-scale invasion.
Ukraine's Economic Challenges
Separately, Getmantsev addressed Ukraine's economic situation, noting the country failed to enter a new cooperation program with the International Monetary Fund on time. This delay threatens the disbursement of funds in the first quarter of 2026. He also reported that in early February, the Verkhovna Rada plans to hear a report from the Minister for Veterans Affairs due to the failure of mobilization efforts. These points highlight the severe military and economic challenges facing the nation.
Getmantsev's remarks underscore the critical need to combat corrupt practices in Ukraine, especially during wartime. Eradicating 'luxury' draft dodging could significantly improve the state's image and bolster support from international partners. Given the precarious economic climate, ensuring transparency across all sectors is vital, as it could facilitate the continued flow of financial aid and backing from international institutions. It is crucial that such declarations lead to concrete actions for improving the country's situation.
