When Hypothyroidism Can Lead to Discharge from Ukraine's Armed Forces.
Treating Service Members with Severe Hypothyroidism
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian military personnel may be sent for in-patient treatment with the approval of their unit commander. Severe hypothyroidism is one medical condition that can serve as grounds for discharge from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to attorney Yuriy Aivazian, whether a service member with hypothyroidism is discharged depends entirely on the severity of the condition. This condition, which involves an underactive thyroid gland, can significantly impact energy levels and overall health.
As stipulated in Appendix 2 to Article 13 of the RKh of Order No. 402 from Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, service members are deemed unfit for duty if they have a severe form of hypothyroidism. A key criterion for this determination is that the individual requires a daily dosage of thyroid hormone therapy at or above 125 micrograms.
Procedures for Referral to Treatment
Yuriy Aivazian noted that decisions regarding a service member's referral for in-patient examination, treatment, or a military medical commission are made by the head of the medical unit in coordination with the unit commander. This underscores the critical importance of following established procedures and medical advice in matters concerning the health of military personnel. The Ukrainian military's medical protocols are designed to balance individual health needs with operational requirements.
This information highlights the significant role medical considerations play in military service, particularly regarding potential medical discharges. Maintaining service members' health and adhering to medical standards is crucial for preserving the combat capability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as any health issue can affect overall military readiness.
