The Spanish Foreign Minister warned against illusions regarding Putin's 'peaceful' intentions.
The Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, stated that currently only Kyiv is discussing the end of the war in Ukraine, but the Russian leadership does not want peace.
In an interview with el Diario, he stated that Europeans support any just peace plan, but decisions regarding Ukraine can only be made by Ukrainian representatives.
'Who talks about peace? Who offers peace plans? It has always been the Ukrainian side, President Zelensky. The Russian president always talks about war, about not renouncing war, about winning the war,' Albares said.
Albares also noted that Europe must have the right to express its opinion on European security, including the war in Ukraine. He emphasized that an unjust and aggressive war, which contradicts the principles of the UN Charter, cannot end with an unjust peace.
'Now the guarantee of such principles as territorial integrity and sovereignty is at risk, along with the fundamental principles of European construction, including the non-use of war to resolve conflicts between states, as well as the principles of tolerance, pluralism, and democracy,' the minister added.
