US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin arrives in Kyiv

On Monday morning, October 21, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit. He reported this on his page on social network X.

Austin noted that he returned to Ukraine for the fourth Time as Secretary of Defense, demonstrating that the United States, along with the international community, continues to support Ukraine.

Meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky and Rustem Umerov

According to CNN, the head of the Pentagon will meet with the country's president Volodymyr Zelensky and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to discuss Ukraine's arms needs and how the US can continue to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine over the next year.

Austin emphasized the importance of international coalitions created to support Ukraine, noting that thanks to these efforts, Ukraine has been able to withstand Russian aggression.

However, the outcome of the US presidential election could jeopardize further support, especially if Donald Trump wins, who has repeatedly expressed doubts about continuing aid to Ukraine.

"The minister's visit will also be a moment for him to "step back" and look at the "arc" of US-Ukraine relations over the past two and a half years of war," said a senior defense official.

Earlier, the Pentagon commented on the possible deployment of North Korean troops to Ukraine.
