According to Novyny.live: According to Ukraine's Defense Intelligence (GUR), Moscow is now using Africa as a laboratory for its cognitive warfare, deploying information and disinformation campaigns to cement its influence. In an interview with the Kyiv Post, GUR representative Andriy Chernyak revealed that Russian intelligence activities in the region have already resulted in the deaths of 5 peacekeepers and over 30 protesters. These figures highlight the severe dangers posed by Russia's growing involvement on the continent.

The frequency of Russian information operations across African nations has climbed sharply, underscoring the aggressive nature of its foreign policy there. Moscow runs a pipeline of fake news in at least 22 countries, demonstrating a systematic approach to spreading falsehoods. As Chernyak put it,

“these subversive information campaigns provoke violence”

Kremlin's Tactics on the Ground

To mask its true objectives, Russia sets up front organizations that pose as 'independent civil society groups.' This tactic allows the Kremlin to create an illusion of legitimacy while manipulating public opinion. Moreover, the Wagner Group—though officially disbanded—still operates on Moscow's behalf, underscoring how private military companies remain central to Russia's strategy for expanding its reach.
