Kharkiv Secures €47 Million for Housing: Mayor Terekhov Clinches Reconstruction Deal.
Mayor Meets International Partners in Gdansk
According to Novyny.live: Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov held talks in Gdansk with Carlo Monticelli, head of the Council of Europe Development Bank, focusing on housing reconstruction and residential program expansion. This meeting marked a pivotal step toward addressing the shelter needs of over 160,000 residents who lost their homes due to Russian shelling.
The city has already secured €47 million in international financial aid, which will be used to bolster municipal liquidity and modernize the heating supply system. This funding is critical for rebuilding infrastructure and creating livable conditions for the population.
Economic Growth and Housing Recovery
Terekhov stressed the link between economic development and housing restoration:
“What matters most to me is keeping the economy running: when housing is built, construction companies operate, people find jobs, taxes are paid, and both the city and the country develop.” - Ihor Terekhov
His remarks underscore the city government’s strategy to expand social and municipal housing while providing shelter for internally displaced persons and utility workers.
Efforts by local authorities and international partners could significantly transform Kharkiv’s housing landscape, a crucial element of post-war urban recovery.
This meeting represents a major milestone in collaboration between Kharkiv and global financial institutions, potentially driving substantial changes in the region’s housing situation. Amid an ongoing war and humanitarian crisis, restoring homes is a top priority for supporting displaced people and maintaining social stability. Economic growth and infrastructure investments promise long-term benefits for rebuilding the city and improving residents’ quality of life.
