Ukrainians marked the 34th anniversary of Independence Day under difficult conditions due to the Russian war. In Kyiv, there was no parade on Khreshchatyk due to Russian shelling, but planned festive events took place in the capital and other cities. In Kherson, locals celebrated the holiday at home under constant shelling and strikes from aerial bombs and artillery.Residents say that independence means freedom, but shelling and war destroy the festive atmosphere. Kherson citizens express their hope for the end of the conflict and their desire for peace. For them, freedom and peace are the most important values they cherish in their hometown of Kherson.
