Opportunities for Ukrainians in the EU

According to Espreso.tv: Millions of Ukrainians can now legally work across European Union member states thanks to temporary protection status, according to Victoria Lobun, advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration. However, she emphasized that Ukraine must pass new legislation to guarantee equal labor rights for EU citizens within its own borders.

Lobun explained that while temporary protection grants Ukrainians official access to EU job markets, Ukraine still needs to update its laws. This would ensure that EU nationals enjoy the same working conditions as locals when employed in Ukraine.

'We need to adopt legislation that provides EU citizens with equal rights on Ukraine's labor market,' Lobun stated.

She also warned that even after Ukraine formally meets all requirements, individual EU countries may still impose certain restrictions on Ukrainian workers.

'Countries may indeed apply certain limitations even after Ukraine formally fulfills all requirements,' she added.

Lobun further noted that Ukrainians would be entitled to work under the same terms as citizens of the specific EU member state they are in.

On June 15 of this year, all EU member states officially agreed to open the first cluster of accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. This milestone paves the way for deeper cooperation and integration, potentially strengthening Ukraine's labor market in the long run.

Why Passing the Legislation Matters

Adopting laws that ensure equal rights for EU citizens in Ukraine underscores the country's commitment to European standards and integration. Beyond attracting foreign investment, such reforms create a healthier economic environment—especially critical for post-war recovery. Progress in EU accession talks could also unlock new opportunities for Ukrainian workers across the European labor market.
