Increased Accessibility of Medications for Women: HRT in the UK Will Now Cost Less Than £20 a Year.
According to The Sun: Starting from April 1, women will be able to purchase an annual subscription for HRT for £18.70, made possible by The Sun's Fabulous Menopause Matters campaign, which influenced changes in treatment accessibility in 2021.
About 400,000 women will take advantage of the new opportunity, allowing them to save a significant amount on prescriptions.
Hormone replacement therapy helps alleviate menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep issues.
The government's women's health ambassador, Dame Leslie Regan, emphasized: “Making HRT more accessible will have a meaningful impact on the lives of countless women.
“The new subscription paves the way for improved health and well-being priorities for women.”
Women will have the opportunity to apply for a certificate online or at a pharmacy, allowing them to receive HRT prescriptions from their doctors.
The achievement of certain conditions last year regarding HRT accessibility made it possible to introduce the first over-the-counter therapies.
And while activists express a desire to make prescriptions completely free, everyone agrees that the new initiative is a step in the right direction.
