Huawei unveils the MatePad Edge 2-in-1 tablet-PC: transformation with a single gesture.
According to Korrespondent.net: Huawei officially presented its new flagship 2-in-1 tablet MatePad Edge. Thanks to the HarmonyOS 5 operating system, this device can easily transform from a tablet into a full-fledged computer with a single gesture. As reported by GSMArena, the new software is optimized for quick switching between modes, and the PC mode interface supports desktop applications, including office tools, video editing tools, and professional productivity applications. Huawei is also collaborating with Chinese manufacturers like Mouse to ensure the proper operation of PC apps and accessories in widescreen mode.
Tablet Specifications
The MatePad Edge is equipped with an updated keyboard featuring a key travel of 1.8 mm, Free Touch touch panel, and tilt capability of up to 175°. The keyboard's construction includes a 'suspension' of 28 mm. For creative tasks, an M-Pencil Pro stylus is available, suitable for drawing and 3D modeling.
Among other specifications, the tablet features a 14.2-inch OLED display with a resolution of 3.1K (3120x2080), a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and peak brightness of 1000 nits. The thickness of the body is only 6.85 mm, and the weight is 780 g. The device is made of solid aviation aluminum. The Soft Light Screen and Liquid Cooling Edition versions use the same display solution but with a special coating to reduce glare.
Battery and Cameras
The tablet has a 12900 mAh battery with 140 W charging support - a full charge takes about an hour. The camera consists of a 32 MP front camera f/2.4 and a dual main unit that includes a 50 MP main camera f/1.8 and an 8 MP wide-angle macro module f/2.2. The device is completed with six stereo speakers and four microphones featuring Huawei Sound technology.
Processors and Performance
The MatePad Edge runs on Huawei's own Kirin X90 or Kirin X90A processors. Although the company does not disclose exact specifications, it is noted that the Liquid Cooling Edition has a more powerful version of the Kirin X90. According to Huawei, the new tablet opens large files 6.7 times faster than the previous MatePad Pro model, and CAD files twice as fast. The device supports 4K video export, RAW image processing, and gaming at 120 Hz.
Price Ranges
In China, the price of the tablet in the 16/256 GB and 16/512 GB configurations is approximately $845 and $915, respectively. The version with anti-glare coating costs $1030 and $1130 for the 16/512 GB and 24 GB/1 TB configurations. The flagship model with liquid cooling is offered at $1835 and comes with a keyboard.
The model with liquid cooling uses a thin 3.6 mm fan, a two-phase vapor chamber module, and an ultra-thin 0.335 mm cooling film with a micro-pump, allowing effective heat dissipation and reducing the temperature of hot spots by 2-3 °C. Additionally, the internal airflow system cools the motherboard, increasing the equivalent TDP by approximately 1.5 W.
