Young woman lost part of her vagina due to cancer: how symptoms were mistaken for IBS.
According to The Sun: Sophia Anderson shared her difficult battle with bowel cancer, which forced her to undergo a complex surgery. The woman survived a 14-hour operation during which doctors removed a tumor, part of her vagina, rectum, intestine, bladder, and a vertebra where the tumor had spread. After the surgery, the pelvic area had to be reconstructed, and some nerves in her left leg were also damaged.
“Losing part of my vagina made me feel like I no longer felt like a woman,” Sophia admitted.
Sophia is also left with two ostomy bags and colostomy and urostomy appliances after the surgery. The woman talked about her support from her husband and her future plans, including the possibility of adoption or surrogacy.
Starting to experience symptoms at 18 years old but only receiving a diagnosis after a year, Sophia underwent long treatment and attempts to remove the tumor before finally being in remission. She decided to raise awareness about bowel cancer among young people after such a challenging experience.
