Mother accused of torturing child with laser: the story of the boy with a mark on his face.
According to The Sun: When Brooke Atkins was pregnant with her second child, she hardly imagined that in a few months she would face the decision to laser her child's face.
She gave birth to a baby named Kingsley in January 2022 and immediately noticed that he had a maroon birthmark covering the right side of his face.
“We started receiving online comments calling us abusive parents,”
The difficult choice led them to decide to proceed with laser treatment for the baby’s face when he was only five months old.
Brooke urges people to remember that not all birthmarks are just birthmarks, and they can pose a serious threat to a child's development.
Observation and Treatment
Kingsley was diagnosed with glaucoma and Sturge-Weber syndrome almost immediately after birth, and later he began experiencing seizures.
The baby has to constantly receive laser sessions, as there is currently no treatment. He has to go to the hospital due to seizures, and in addition, he undergoes laser sessions and surgeries for glaucoma.
The report that Kingsley's mother was forced to make the difficult decision regarding laser treatment of her child's facial birthmark reveals the challenges faced by parents of children with rare medical conditions. The report also highlights the importance of advancing science and medicine to treat such conditions in infants.Read also
