India is profiting from Russian oil: US Treasury declares it unacceptable

India is earning from the purchases of Russian oil amid the war between Russia and Ukraine, says the US Treasury

India has suddenly increased its purchases of Russian oil during the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and is benefiting from the resale of this resource. The US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessen called this situation unacceptable in an interview with CNBC, according to FREEdom.

“If we look back, we will see that before 2022 India received less than 1% of Russian oil. Now it is about 42%. Therefore, India is essentially profiting by reselling it. Some of the wealthiest families in India gained $16 billion in additional profit. I would call this Indian arbitrage: buying cheap Russian oil and selling it as a product. Sales growth was recorded after the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, which is unacceptable,” emphasized the US Secretary of the Treasury.

It should be noted that earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessen urged the EU to abandon fuel from Russian oil.

Reports that India significantly increased the purchase of Russian oil during the war between Russia and Ukraine and profits from its resale have caused outrage in the United States. The US Treasury Secretary emphasized the unacceptability of such a situation, especially in the context of geopolitical tensions.
