Apple introduced the iPhone 17 Air and new gadgets: what has changed.
According to Korrespondent.net: Tomorrow, Apple will hold its annual presentation where, according to expectations, the new iPhone 17 will be introduced, along with updated versions of the Pro and Max. Additionally, it is possible that a new model, potentially named the iPhone 17 Air, which will have an even thinner body, will be announced.
The company also plans to showcase other novelties, including new Apple Watches, AirPods Pro 3, as well as updates for the iPad Pro, Vision Pro, Apple TV, and the HomePod mini smart speaker. According to the traditions of previous years, all these products could go on sale in the fall.
Competition in the Market
The iPhone remains the most popular smartphone in the world, holding around 27% of the market; however, competitors such as Samsung, Google, and Chinese brands Huawei and Xiaomi are closing in on Apple. The iPhone is a primary source of revenue for Apple, accounting for about half of their sales, so the company strives to maintain its competitiveness amid the era of artificial intelligence.
Analysts believe that Apple will significantly change the design of the iPhone for the first time in five years. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models will feature new rear panels with a specific camera cluster layout. The new phones will use the A19 Pro processor, allowing for increased battery life, improved video quality, and the telephoto lens will be upgraded from 12 megapixels to 48 megapixels.
The camera updates will include a new variable aperture system, the ability to record video simultaneously from both the front and rear cameras, and the most significant front camera upgrade in iPhone history.
New Products in Other Categories
The new iPad Pro is in development and will be one of the first Apple devices with the M5 processor. Following significant design and display changes in the M4 model last year, the new version will not receive considerable changes other than the addition of a second front camera on the long side of the device.
Apple is also preparing the first update for the Vision Pro augmented reality headset, which was released in February 2024 but has yet to gain popularity among users. The company is not in a rush to invest significant amounts in this product, as the newer M2 chip will simply be replaced with a more modern one (M4 or M5).
Apple TV will receive its first update since 2022, which will include a new processor to support the capabilities of Apple's AI system, Apple Intelligence, as well as a new version of the voice assistant Siri, which is expected to appear next year. Apple TV will become one of the first devices of the company with a new custom wireless chip.
The HomePod mini smart speaker will also receive an upgraded chip that will support new Siri and Apple Intelligence features, as well as improved sound quality. Apple is also testing new colors, including red.
Furthermore, the flagship Apple Watch Ultra 3 will undergo significant changes: it will have a larger screen, a new S11 chip, and the ability to connect to a satellite service for text messaging and emergency communication.
Budget models, Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch SE, are also likely to receive new processors and improved screens.
Thus, Apple's presentation is expected to provide substantial innovations not only in the smartphone segment but also in other devices. This could become a landmark event for the company amid ongoing competition in the technology market as well as new consumer demands regarding functionality and design. We will keep an eye on the news to see how this will impact the market.
