Statement from Ukraine’s Top Diplomat

According to UATV: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has weighed in on Ireland’s decision to launch a probe into alumina shipments to Russia, stressing how this move could impact Moscow’s defense industry. Sybiha underscored the significance of the investigation, saying:

‘We welcome the Irish authorities’ decision to open an official inquiry.’ — Andrii Sybiha

Alumina, a material that can be used in the production of Russian missiles, drones, and military aircraft, is a critical resource for the aggressor nation. Ukraine plans to work closely with its allies to tighten sanctions against Russia and cut off its access to such supplies. Sybiha added:

‘Russia must be denied access to any and all critical resources and materials.’ — Andrii Sybiha

Growing International Backing for Ukraine

Separately, Bosnia and Herzegovina has become the 50th country to join the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children. This milestone reflects broadening global support for Ukraine’s efforts to protect children’s rights amid the war. Sybiha noted:

  • ‘It is time to apply the same approach to alumina,’ he said, calling for decisive action to bolster security.

Ireland’s investigation into alumina exports to Russia highlights rising international concern over the flow of strategically important materials that could fuel military operations. This development may also mark a significant step in global efforts to reinforce sanctions on Russia and curb its war-making capacity. The addition of new nations to coalitions backing Ukraine further illustrates the expanding international solidarity around human rights and regional security.
