Odesa's Ivanivsky Bridge Faces Traffic Restrictions Until 2026.
Odesa's Ivanivsky Bridge to Remain Under Traffic Limits Until 2026
According to Novyny.live: Traffic restrictions on Odesa's Ivanivsky Bridge have been extended until December 31, 2026, due to the structure's critical condition. This extension follows the bridge being declared unfit for use in 2021, with initial limits on both freight and pedestrian traffic imposed in March of that year. The bridge is a vital artery for the city's port and regional commerce.
Impact of the Traffic Limits
The current restrictions prohibit trucks weighing over five tons from using the bridge and physically limit the passage of oversized vehicles. Cars meeting the weight requirements may only cross at speeds up to 40 km/h. These measures are intended to ensure user safety and prevent further deterioration of the structure.
A major reconstruction project, estimated at 1.6 billion hryvnias, has been planned for the bridge. The tender for building a new road was won by the company 'Rostdorstroi' for 160 million hryvnias. Despite these reconstruction plans, the traffic restrictions will remain in place at least until the end of 2026, which is expected to significantly impact regional transport.
The prolonged limitations on the Ivanivsky Bridge, a key transport link for many residents and businesses, represent a critical infrastructure challenge for Odesa. The extended timeline is likely to cause traffic congestion and shipping delays, affecting economic activity in the region. It is crucial for the reconstruction process to adhere to its planned schedule to mitigate negative consequences for public and freight transport.
