Jeep Recon: the first electric SUV with 650 hp and 33-inch wheels

According to Korrespondent.net: Jeep is actively trying to establish its niche in the electric vehicle market and has presented its first fully electric SUV, the Recon, in the USA, which has received the Trail Rated badge, reports Carscoops. The 2026 model has a power of 650 hp and can accelerate to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, as well as being noted for its excellent off-road capabilities.

The design of the Recon combines classic Jeep features with a recognizable 'boxy' silhouette and a distinctive grille. It also includes modern elements: light rings, hidden door handles, and an optional Sky One-Touch roof. Like the Wrangler, the Recon allows for doors and separate panels to be removed without the use of tools.

Interior and Technical Specifications

The interior space of the vehicle stands out with the largest display in the Jeep model range - a 26-inch panel that combines a digital instrument cluster with a 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen. A rack for mounting accessories, such as for a GoPro, is also provided.

Currently, there is one configuration available - the Recon Moab. It is built on the STLA Large platform and is equipped with two electric motors on the front and rear axles, providing 50 hp more than the brand's first electric vehicle for the USA - the Wagoneer S. A 100 kWh battery provides approximately 250 miles of range, which is less than the Wagoneer S, however, Jeep explains this by the model's unique off-road potential.

The Recon features 33-inch wheels, differential locking, and Selec-Terrain modes with Rock Mode. It also has underbody protection with steel plates. The vehicle's suspension is independent both front and rear, which is supposed to improve handling on asphalt. However, the off-road angles of the Recon are lower than those of the gasoline Wrangler Moab 392, and the ground clearance is significantly less.

Production of the Recon will start at the plant in Toluca at the beginning of next year. The starting price will be $65,000, but more affordable options with lower power will appear later. Jeep also acknowledges that the electric vehicle market in the USA is currently quite unpredictable, so the success of the Recon will largely depend on consumers' readiness to invest in an electric SUV today.
