EU’s Kallas Urges Russia-Ukraine Dialogue While Preparing New Sanctions Package.
Push for Talks Between Russia and Ukraine
According to Espreso.tv: Following an informal EU meeting held in Cyprus, Kallas stressed the urgency of opening a dialogue between Russia and Ukraine. The EU’s top diplomat highlighted that negotiations between the two sides are essential to achieving peace. She stated:
“We must do everything possible to enable Russia and Ukraine to talk to each other.”
According to her, a ceasefire agreement must be reached first for any meaningful dialogue to succeed.
Fresh Sanctions and Regional Stability
In addition, Kallas announced that new sanctions are being prepared against both Russia and Iran. These measures are part of the EU’s broader strategy to uphold stability in the region and continue supporting Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. The informal gathering on Cyprus served as a key venue for discussing pressing international issues.
Kallas’ statements reflect the European Union’s ongoing dual approach: pursuing diplomatic openings for a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war while maintaining economic pressure through sanctions. This strategy aims to influence Moscow’s actions in the region, balancing peace efforts with the need to ensure security for Ukraine and its allies.
