Upgraded 'Shahed' drones: new threats from Russia

Russia has begun using upgraded versions of 'Shahed' drones, which pose a serious threat, and their numbers continue to grow. This was reported by aviation expert Konstantin Kryvolap during the broadcast. The specialist emphasized that these drones are more expensive compared to standard models and are equipped with modern technologies, making their neutralization by electronic warfare means more difficult. Kryvolap noted that the number of drones capable of being controlled through operators is steadily increasing. In addition, about a year ago, modifications of 'Shaheds' appeared that can respond to the signals of mobile fire groups during attempts to destroy them. This has become possible thanks to new sensors and cameras for object recognition and direct control. The expert explained that the new versions of the drones operate through network communication or integration with satellites, and can also use relays for masking and increasing accuracy.
“Unfortunately, we cannot cover the entire space with electronic warfare, so suppressing these drones in this way is not an easy task.”
It was previously known that Russian 'Shaheds' are equipped with short-range P-60 missiles. Experts note that this old Soviet development, aimed at thermal sources, poses a threat to helicopters and aircraft, although its effectiveness is limited due to the small mass of the warhead. Additionally, it has been reported that 'Shaheds' are equipped with rear-view cameras that allow them to track and avoid Ukrainian interceptors. In response to the new challenges, Ukraine has deployed its own interceptors, which have improved the operation of the air defense system. Western countries and companies are showing interest in the technology for creating similar drones, considering it promising for investment and military resource engagement. In the face of growing threats from new versions of 'Shahed' drones, Ukraine is actively enhancing its air defense systems. The importance lies not only in technical adaptation but also in strategic partnerships with Western countries that can provide the necessary technologies to improve the effectiveness of Ukrainian forces. The response to new challenges will be a key factor in maintaining the country's security.
