Kia recalls 250 thousand K5 sedans: reason – fire hazard.
According to Korrespondent.net: Kia has announced a significant recall of 250547 K5 sedans in the US due to a dangerous fuel system defect that could lead to fires, as reported by Carscoops. The recall covers vehicles from the 2021-2024 models produced at the Kia plant in Georgia and equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged T-GDI engine. Models with a 2.5-liter engine are not included in this recall.
Fuel system defect
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has discovered that there is an issue with the venturi valve in the fuel system. Due to its degradation, excess pressure may enter the fuel tank from the intake manifold. This poses a risk of tank expansion, which can result in contact with the exhaust system and subsequently lead to melting and fuel leaks.
Measures taken
The investigation was prompted by complaints from owners about the smell of fuel and traces of leakage. Although Kia confirmed that no incidents or injuries have occurred, the company decided to urgently address the identified defect. Owners can continue to use their vehicles until repairs are made, provided there are no obvious signs of leakage.
Recall process
Recall letters will begin to be sent out in January. During service visits, dealers will check the condition of the fuel tank and replace it if damage is found. In any case, the venturi valve causing the problem will be replaced with a new one, even if the tank is undamaged.
