Power restored in Kyiv for all consumers: how energy workers are overcoming the consequences of attacks

According to ТСН: Electricity supply has been restored for all consumers in Kyiv.

This was reported by Mykola Kolisnyk, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, during a national telethon.

According to him, energy workers continue restoration work and gradually transition from emergency shutdowns to planned hourly schedules.

Mr. Kolisnyk emphasized that despite the consequences of massive Russian attacks and difficult weather conditions, Ukraine's energy system remains unified, integral, and operates in parallel with the European energy system (ENTSO-E).

He also noted that system balancing is being ensured through domestic generation, electricity imports, and consumption limitation measures.

“In the capital, energy workers restored electricity supply for 648 thousand consumers in a day. In Kyiv region, power was restored to 313 thousand families in a day. Of these, 90 thousand were disconnected due to hostilities, another 223 thousand — due to difficult weather conditions. As of the evening, about 60 thousand consumers remain without electricity,” he noted.

Which regions are in the most difficult situation

After the massive attack last night, the situation remains complicated in Dnipropetrovsk region — currently, 53 thousand consumers are disconnected.

However, thanks to emergency recovery work throughout the day, more than 40 thousand consumers were able to be connected.

“The situation remains most complicated in frontline and border regions with Russia, particularly in Donetsk region, where due to constant enemy strikes on transmission and distribution networks, emergency shutdowns are being implemented,” added the deputy minister.

How the weather affects

Mykola Kolisnyk pointed out that the weather has significantly impacted the functioning of the energy system. Ice rain, wet snow, ice slick, and strong gusts of wind have led to power line breaks and additional disconnections.

As of 4:00 PM, due to bad weather, 366 settlements in several regions remained completely or partially without electricity, the most in Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.

Let us remind that earlier, the director of the Energy Research Center, Oleksandr Kharchenko, emphasized that winter weather complicates the situation in Ukraine's energy system, which suffers from Russian army shelling. The most harmful factors have been snowstorms and wet snow, which lead to power line breaks.

The restoration of electricity supply has become important news for residents of the capital and surrounding regions, especially under unfavorable weather conditions. The continuation of restoration works highlights the resilience of the Ukrainian energy system, which is especially relevant amidst military threats. Hopes for further stabilization of energy supply are preserved, as energy workers are actively working to eliminate the consequences of both hostilities and weather conditions.
