Over 1,000 Kyiv Apartment Buildings Remain Without Heat Following Drone Attack.
Kyiv Heating Crisis Persists After Russian Drone Strike
According to Novyny.live: On February 5, Oleksiy Kuleba chaired a meeting of the Emergency Response Headquarters for Kyiv's energy system to address the city's heating and power supply situation. The meeting was convened following a massive overnight drone attack by Russian forces against Kyiv. As a result of this assault, 1,126 multi-story residential buildings currently remain without heating. This ongoing crisis is part of a wider Russian campaign targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, particularly during the winter months.
More than 200 emergency repair crews are now working to restore Kyiv's heat supply. Oleksiy Kuleba reported that inspections have been completed at the combined heat and power plant (CHPP) that provided heating for parts of the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts. He stated that the damage to the CHPP is extensive and that repairs will require significant time.
Capital City Response
The city has also established over 1,500 'Invincibility Points' to assist residents during these difficult conditions. The situation with electricity and heating in Kyiv remains complex, and municipal services continue working to stabilize it. These events underscore the persistent challenges Kyiv faces in wartime, particularly regarding the resilience of its energy infrastructure.
Maintaining heat and electricity is critically important for ensuring normal life for residents, especially during winter. Authorities and utility services are doing everything possible to restore services, demonstrating their readiness to respond to emergencies.
