Deadly Kyiv Strike: 18 Killed, 85 Wounded Including Children in Overnight Attack.
Massive Strike Hits Ukraine's Capital
According to Novyny.live: In the early hours of July 2, Russian forces launched a devastating assault on Kyiv, claiming 18 lives and leaving 85 people injured—among them two children. The tragedy has sparked outrage and deep sorrow across the Ukrainian capital, as residents grapple with yet another violent escalation in the ongoing war.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU), the attack inflicted widespread damage on buildings across multiple districts. In the Darnytskyi district, partial destruction was reported at five- and nine-story residential buildings, along with the upper floors of a 16-story apartment block and several private homes. The Shevchenkivskyi district saw fires break out on the shared roof of a seven-story residential building and at the CityHotel Residence. In the Holosiivskyi district, a fire erupted on the technical floor of a 16-story building that was also hit in the strike.
Aftermath of the Attack
In the Pecherskyi district, a nine-story residential building was partially destroyed, and a fire spread across 200 square meters. The Obolonskyi district experienced a blaze at a warehouse facility, while in the Sviatoshynskyi district, two private homes were damaged. The Desnianskyi district also suffered destruction, with a nine-story residential building sustaining damage.
This incident underscores the escalating violence in Ukraine, now in its second year of full-scale war. The mounting death toll and destruction have drawn international concern, with global leaders closely monitoring the situation. Emergency crews remain on the ground, providing aid to survivors and working to clear debris and restore essential services.
The massive strike on Kyiv and its aftermath highlight the precarious security situation in Ukraine, where military operations have persisted for over a year. The rising number of casualties and structural damage has alarmed not only Ukrainians but also the international community, which is actively observing developments. Local authorities and rescue services continue their efforts to mitigate the effects of the attack, rebuild infrastructure, and support those affected.
