YASNO CEO Warns of Potential Total Power Blackout in Kyiv.
Kyiv's Critical Energy Supply Situation
According to Novyny.live: The CEO of energy company YASNO, Serhiy Kovalenko, has issued a stark warning that Kyiv faces the risk of a complete loss of electrical power due to Russian military strikes. He explained that the likelihood of a blackout hinges on several variables, including weather conditions, the specific locations of shelling impacts, and the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defenses. Kovalenko stressed that the situation is highly volatile, and the probability of severe consequences from enemy attacks remains significant. This warning comes as Ukraine's energy grid has been a repeated target for Russian forces seeking to cripple civilian infrastructure during winter.
Current Status and Recent Attacks
As of January 25, heating remains unavailable for 1,676 buildings in the capital. The shelling attacks that occurred on January 9 and January 20 have substantially worsened the city's energy predicament. Emphasizing the scale of the threat, Kovalenko stated,
"Anything is possible,"noting that the enemy is well-armed and possesses the resources to severely damage energy infrastructure.
The energy situation in Kyiv remains tense, and residents must be aware of the risks posed by both shelling and harsh weather. Supply systems require heightened protection during wartime, leaving them vulnerable to external disruptions.
Kyiv's energy crisis underscores the critical importance of infrastructure stability during an armed conflict. Given the ongoing threat of bombardment, residents should prepare for potential interruptions in electricity and heating services. Deteriorating winter weather could further complicate recovery efforts, making it imperative for local authorities and utility companies to take all necessary steps to safeguard and stabilize the energy networks.
