Kyiv's Road Infrastructure Under Fire

According to Novyny.live: Oleksandr Grechko, co-founder of the civic organization 'Passengers of Kyiv,' has sharply criticized the state of the capital's roads. He argues that despite billions in construction spending, the city is witnessing a rise in traffic accidents. Grechko made his remarks during a broadcast of 'Kyiv Time,' highlighting dangerous conditions for both drivers and pedestrians.

On June 5, a driver of a Mercedes-Benz crashed into a pedestrian underpass in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv, killing four people. The vehicle was traveling at an estimated speed of 150 kilometers per hour. A court has ordered the driver to be held in custody without the possibility of bail.

Grechko emphasized that 'the city is building these highways right in the middle of areas where people and pedestrians walk. What driver would stick to 50 kilometers per hour?' Oleksandr Grechko

He further noted that 'every condition is being created to encourage people to drive faster.' These comments underscore serious infrastructure flaws in the capital that demand urgent attention. The tragic incident has reignited debates about road safety and urban planning in Kyiv.

The current state of road safety in Kyiv highlights the urgent need to rethink how roads are designed and rebuilt. With the number of vehicles on the rise, it is essential to create safe conditions for all road users, including pedestrians. Following the deadly crash, the issue of road safety has become even more pressing, requiring immediate action from city authorities.
