Building a Professional Contract-Based Military in Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: Vitaliy Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, has voiced support for transitioning Ukraine to a fully professional, contract-based army. In his view, 2022 demonstrated the power of national resistance, highlighting the critical need for higher service quality and a move away from conscription. However, Kim points out that this transition faces significant obstacles, especially financial ones.

Veterans’ Social Welfare

According to Kim, Ukraine currently has over 130 veterans living with disabilities caused by the war. Given this reality, ensuring proper social protection and support for these individuals is essential.

“Unfortunately, we haven’t achieved that yet,” he emphasized.

Kim also noted that funding for the Armed Forces of Ukraine remains a complex challenge.

“It’s very difficult with money right now, because international partners cannot finance our Armed Forces,” he stated.

Overall, Ukraine’s situation demands a comprehensive approach to building a professional contract-based army, alongside adequate support for war-affected veterans. Addressing these issues is becoming increasingly urgent amid today’s security challenges.
