Arrest Warrant for Lawmaker Kuzminykh After Repeated Court No-Shows; Hearing Set for June 29.
Serhiy Kuzminykh Detained
According to Espreso.tv: Ukrainian lawmaker Serhiy Kuzminykh has been taken into custody after failing to appear in court on multiple occasions. Detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) carried out the arrest under a ruling from the High Anti-Corruption Court. He was placed in a temporary detention facility, and a prosecutor's motion to alter his pretrial restrictions is scheduled to be heard on June 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
Charges and Alleged Corruption
Kuzminykh, a member of the 'Servant of the People' parliamentary faction, faces accusations of corruption dating back to January 2022. He is alleged to have received 558,000 Ukrainian hryvnias in illicit benefits, which represented 30% of a contract for an ultrasound diagnostic system. The agreements were signed between a municipal enterprise in Zhytomyr and a private firm, with two additional equipment supply contracts totaling over 38 million hryvnias.
The lawmaker's actions are being prosecuted under Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. An indictment was submitted to the court in 2022. However, Kuzminykh repeatedly skipped hearings scheduled on:
- October 29, 2025
- March 30, 2026
- June 1, 2026
- June 22, 2026
As a result, the court imposed monetary penalties on November 24, 2025, and April 27, 2026.
This detention marks a significant step in Ukraine's ongoing fight against corruption, particularly as the country continues to strengthen its anti-corruption institutions. The repeated failure of the accused to attend court sessions has raised concerns about attempts to evade justice, challenging the credibility of legal accountability. The case will proceed, and the court's upcoming decisions could greatly influence public perception of lawmakers' responsibility for corrupt practices.
