End to chaotic parking – new markings in Odessa's Arcadia.
A new traffic scheme has been introduced in Odessa's Arcadia, addressing the issue of chaotic parking. Now, there are designated areas for taxis, public transport, and even cyclists.
According to Odessa City Council deputy Peter Obukhov, the new scheme was developed in response to police demands and to prevent road blockages caused by taxi drivers in the Arcadia area.
Details of the new scheme
Currently, a special lane for public transport, a taxi area with parking restrictions, and a separate bicycle lane have been established in the Arcadia area. To prevent parking on the bicycle lane, it is separated by special posts. However, according to Peter Obukhov, this may not eliminate the problem of traffic jams, as mass events in such areas are difficult to control.
Despite the fact that measures to improve traffic may help slightly reduce the traffic jam problem, the issue will remain. It is also important to note that traffic from the center of Odessa to Peresyp has been restored and a building in the city that was damaged by shelling has been repaired.
As a result, the city authorities' initiative to solve the parking problem in Odessa's Arcadia has proven to be quite successful, but traffic congestion issues may persist in the future due to the inability to fully control the traffic flow in this area.
