Kyiv's Winter Preparedness Under Fire: Generators from Khmelnytskyi Remain Unconnected for Six Weeks.
Heating Season Preparations Face Scrutiny
According to Novyny.live: Kyiv's Desnianskyi District Governor, Maksym Bakhmatov, has publicly criticized the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) for its inadequate preparations for the upcoming heating season. He highlighted the urgent need to improve the energy resilience of the capital's left bank, stressing that immediate action is required. This criticism comes as Ukrainian cities continue to strengthen their infrastructure against potential energy disruptions.
Speaking at a roundtable titled 'Energy Resilience of Kyiv's Left Bank: Challenges and Solutions Before the Next Heating Season,' Bakhmatov detailed specific issues plaguing his district. He revealed that five generators provided to the KCSA by Khmelnytskoblenergo have remained unconnected for a month and a half.
'To this day, the five generators given to us by the KCSA from Khmelnytskoblenergo are still not connected. A month and a half has already passed,' Bakhmatov emphasized.
Furthermore, he stated that no administrative body exists capable of implementing the necessary changes within such a short timeframe.
'There simply is no body that can implement anything within 25 weeks,' he said.
Bakhmatov also expressed concern about future planning, stating, 'Either we build into our plan that we will violate certain norms and spend three years restoring the balance, or we will do nothing at all.'
Proposed Solutions
One potential solution under consideration is the establishment of a municipal 'Energy Security Service' in Kyiv. Such an entity could be a crucial step toward ensuring a stable power supply for the capital's left bank.
Bakhmatov's remarks and proposals underscore the urgent need for the KCSA to act swiftly to bolster the region's energy stability before winter. The situation points to the significant challenges facing the capital's authorities amid heightened energy demand, particularly during the cold months. Given the critical importance of energy security for the city's functioning, prompt and effective action by the KCSA could help prevent potential crises this heating season. The proposed creation of an 'Energy Security Service' may be a key step in addressing these systemic issues and enhancing the energy autonomy of Kyiv's left bank.
