Cogeneration Units in Kyiv: Current Status

According to Novyny.live: Kyiv City Council deputy Andriy Vitrenko has provided an update on the status of cogeneration units in the capital. According to his report, none of these units are yet fully operational. Currently, only two cogeneration units are ready to function, and they are running in a test mode. Vitrenko stated:

'Only two are prepared for operation. They are functioning in a test mode, while all the others are still being installed.' Andriy Vitrenko

The distributed cogeneration program was launched in the summer of 2024. According to the plan, all units are to be installed and running at full capacity by December 2025. Kyiv has also reimbursed the costs of generators for associations of co-owners of apartment buildings (OSBB) and housing cooperatives (ZhBK).

The implementation of cogeneration units is a significant step toward energy independence and reducing energy costs for Kyiv residents. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen Ukraine's energy resilience following attacks on its infrastructure. Successful completion of the program by the end of 2025 could substantially improve the capital's energy infrastructure, particularly in the face of potential power supply disruptions. The city's reimbursement for generators for OSBBs and ZhBKs further demonstrates municipal support for ensuring a stable energy supply for the population.
