Colombia, along with Russia and China, calls for a UN Security Council meeting over US actions in Venezuela.
According to ТСН: Colombia, together with Russia and China, has initiated an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council due to the actions of the United States concerning Venezuela. The discussion is scheduled for Monday.
The reason for holding the meeting was a letter from the Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the UN, Samuel Moncada, addressed to the Security Council. In his speech, the diplomat accused the United States of attempting to overthrow the current government of Venezuela.
“This is a colonial war aimed at destroying our republican form of government, freely chosen by our people, and establishing a puppet government for the purpose of plundering our natural resources, including the world's largest oil reserves.”
Moncada also emphasized that the actions of the United States violate the Charter of the United Nations.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Stéphane Dujarric, noted that the military actions of the United States concerning Venezuela are a “dangerous precedent” that may have serious international consequences.
The UN Security Council meeting is expected on January 5.
It is worth noting that President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro has been taken to New York, where he is being prepared for trial.
This situation has raised tensions on the international stage as it has drawn attention to the potential consequences for stability in the region. Observers note that the Security Council meeting may become an important milestone in the further development of events surrounding Venezuela and its relations with Western countries.
