Curfew Stays in Force, But Exceptions Are Weighed for Prolonged Blackouts.
Curfew to Remain, With Exceptions Considered for Extended Power Outages
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine has no plans to cancel its nationwide curfew, but officials are considering potential exceptions for citizens during prolonged electricity blackouts. This comes as the country faces severe strain on its energy infrastructure due to ongoing conflict. Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kubrakov noted that an audit of 'Invincibility Points' is currently underway, with plans to equip them with necessary supplies. This decision accounts for situations where consumers in the capital, Kyiv, could be without power for over 12 consecutive hours.
Oleksiy Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, emphasized that the curfew regime remains in effect.
He also reported that over 10,000 locations for these Invincibility Points have already been inspected as part of a nationwide audit. A portion of these points will be outfitted with additional equipment to ensure their effectiveness during extended blackouts.
Separately, mechanisms are being developed to support Invincibility Points based in private facilities. This includes potential compensation for the costs of backup power generation and fuel. The goal is to ensure the reliability and accessibility of these shelters for the population during the difficult conditions of an energy crisis.
Challenges of the Energy Crisis
The situation with the curfew and power outages reflects the broader challenges Ukraine faces during wartime and an acute energy crisis. Maintaining the curfew underscores the continued need to ensure public safety, while the state also seeks to adapt to new realities by bolstering support for Invincibility Points.
These measures could become a crucial step in mitigating the negative impacts of prolonged blackouts for citizens, especially during the winter months.
