The Committee of the Council has agreed to dismiss Malyuk: when the parliament will vote.
According to ТСН: The Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, which deals with national security, defense, and intelligence, changed its previous decision and sided with the president, supporting his proposal to dismiss Vasyl Malyuk from the position of head of the SBU. The final decision is to be made by the Verkhovna Rada in the near future.
This was reported by deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak. He noted that during the repeated voting of the committee, 12 members supported the presidential submission, one deputy (Fedir Venislavskyi) abstained, and five voted against - among them Roman Kostenko, Solomiya Bobrovska, Oleksiy Ivchenko, Serhiy Rakhmanin, and Iryna Friz. Thus, the committee gave the 'green light' for the president's decision.
Expectations for voting in parliament
The issue of Malyuk's dismissal is likely to be considered in the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada today. As Zheleznyak noted, the necessary 226 votes can be gathered.
During the discussion, opposition representatives insisted on hearing the report of Vasyl Malyuk, while representatives of the government assured that the situation is under control. The head of the Servant of the People faction, Davyd Arakhamia, noted that if Malyuk's decision is not executed, he may be suspended, and the leadership of the special unit 'Alpha' will pass to Yevheniy Khmara. He also said that there will currently be no new submission for the appointment of the head of the SBU.
Circumstances of Vasyl Malyuk's dismissal
Previously, there was uncertainty in parliament regarding the committee's position: some sources indicated that during the first consideration of the submission, there were not enough votes gathered. Reports emerged of a tense conversation between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vasyl Malyuk. The head of the SBU allegedly did not want to leave his position due to the final stage of several important special operations but agreed to submit the question for parliamentary consideration.
On January 5, Vasyl Malyuk expressed his intention to resign but stated that he would remain in the SBU system to participate in special operations. After this, the head of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, officially presented the presidential submission for his dismissal, and the issue of changing the leadership of the SBU moved into the legislative sphere.
The dismissal of Vasyl Malyuk from the position of head of the SBU is an important event for Ukrainian politics, especially in the context of the security challenges faced by the country. The Verkhovna Rada's decision will confirm the president's course towards renewing leadership in law enforcement agencies, which may significantly affect Ukraine's defense capability strategy. We are monitoring the developments in parliament, as the vote may open new pages in the activities of the SBU and national security of the country.
