Heating Crisis in Kyiv: 378 Apartment Buildings Left Without Heat.
Kyiv Faces Major Heating Crisis as Hundreds of Buildings Go Cold
According to Novyny.live: A severe heating failure has left residents of an apartment building on Zabolotnogo Street in Kyiv without heat or electricity. Their appeals to municipal services have gone unanswered, forcing them to cope with the consequences on their own. The scale of the problem is citywide, with 378 multi-story buildings currently without heating, the majority of which are located in the Desnianskyi district.
The crisis stems from corroded and burst pipes in the building on Zabolotnogo Street, which cut off the heating supply. Residents of Troieshchyna have reported living without heat for several weeks. This infrastructure failure creates severe hardship for locals, especially amid the current cold weather. Such systemic issues are not uncommon in post-Soviet urban infrastructure, which often suffers from chronic underinvestment.
One resident, Oleh Grokholskyi, highlighted the dire situation: 'People aren't using the sewage system. The men are saying, 'Heat up the sewer pipes, and we'll get your water running again.'
The situation has caused widespread concern among residents, who are hoping for a swift resolution to restore heat to their homes. For now, they are forced to rely on their own resources while waiting for the relevant services to take urgent action.
The widespread lack of heating in Kyiv's apartment blocks underscores serious, deep-rooted problems with the city's infrastructure that require immediate attention. The situation in the Desnianskyi district, where most of the affected buildings are located, could act as a catalyst for reform in the municipal utilities sector—but only if services begin to respond promptly. The residents left without heat require immediate support, as the cold weather poses a direct threat to their health and well-being.
