Air Conditioning on Ukrainian Railways: How Many Cars Are Equipped and Will Passengers Get Refunds?.
Air Conditioning on Ukrainian Railways
According to Novyny.live: This article examines the state of air conditioning on Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) trains, the possibility of compensation for passengers when the systems fail, and the number of upgraded cars. Currently, 100 high-speed trains—roughly 71% of the entire fleet—are equipped with air conditioning. These 100 trains include 933 sleeping cars.
It is important to note that air conditioning is not a paid add-on for passengers and is not included in the ticket price. This means that all travelers can enjoy comfort during their journeys without extra charges. However, the question of compensation for malfunctioning air conditioning remains unresolved.
Car Modernization
Additionally, Ukrzaliznytsia has modernized 59 cars, reflecting the company’s efforts to improve passenger service quality. That said, Russia has damaged or destroyed hundreds of Ukrainian Railways cars, significantly affecting the overall state of the rolling stock.
Overall, the condition of air conditioning on Ukrainian Railways trains is satisfactory, with a high level of installation in high-speed trains. However, many issues still need to be addressed to ensure even greater passenger comfort.
Given the current situation in Ukraine, modernizing cars and equipping them with air conditioning could be a crucial step toward improving Ukrzaliznytsia’s service, especially amid rising demand for passenger transport. With infrastructure damaged by the war, restoring and upgrading the rolling stock has become a priority to maintain adequate comfort and safety for passengers.
