The European Union allocated 90 billion euros to Ukraine: where the funds will go.
According to ТСН: The European Union has provided Ukraine with 90 billion euros in non-repayable and interest-free funds for the next two years. This money can be used to finance the budget and defense of the country.
Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko shared the news on Facebook, noting:
“The European Council has made a crucial decision for Ukraine to allocate 90 billion euros for the next two years”.
He also emphasized that these funds will not need to be repaid, except in the case that Russia compensates Ukraine for the damages caused by the war.
“It is important that work on the Reparations Loan will continue - its implementation requires additional preparation”, - added Marchenko.
Agreement Details
Let us remind you that the European Union made an important decision to allocate 90 billion euros to support Ukraine. This funding in the form of an interest-free loan will help meet military and budgetary needs of the country for 2026-2027. Frozen Russian assets will remain prohibited for use, and Ukraine is obliged to repay the loan only after receiving reparations from Russia.
Assessment of the Agreement
According to Sky News, the concluded agreement does not quite align with the initial plans. This has been somewhat of a setback for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other Eastern European countries that advocated for using Russian assets for financing.
Thus, receiving 90 billion euros will be an important step for Ukraine in implementing necessary reforms and strengthening defense capabilities. The funds provided by the European Union are of significant importance, especially amid the ongoing military conflict. The country, receiving this financial support, hopes for stability and development in the future.
