The Kremlin responded to Trump on the words about the paper tiger: what they said in Moscow.
Kremlin's reaction to Trump's support for Ukraine
According to The Sun: Today, the Kremlin responded sharply to Trump's surprising statements about supporting Ukraine, calling it a 'deep mistake' of the American president. Muscovites emphasized that Russia is a 'real bear', not a 'paper tiger'.
The Kremlin clarified that they have 'no other choice' but to continue the conflict in Ukraine after Trump referred to the country as a 'paper tiger'.
Trump spoke on the first day of the high week at the UN General Assembly (UNGA80).
These comments came after Trump expressed full support for Ukraine in its pursuit to regain all lost territories. In his speech at the General Assembly, he gathered Russia, calling it a 'paper tiger' with a fragile economy.
After meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump also noted that Ukraine could regain 'every inch' of its territory.
'We continue our special military operation to ensure our interests and achieve the objectives [set by Putin]' - said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in a radio interview.
He added: 'We do this for the present and the future of our country. For many generations to come. That is why we have no alternative.'
Kremlin's response and criticism of Trump
In his statement, Trump also contemptuously noted Russia's military strength, mocking its inability to quickly defeat Ukraine. On his social media platform Truth Social, he wrote that Ukraine 'can restore its country to its original state and, who knows, may even go further.'
The Kremlin did not ignore Trump's remarks, emphasizing that they are not conducting 'unfounded' battles for three and a half years.
'The term 'paper tiger' was used in reference to our economy' - noted Peskov. 'Russia is more associated with a bear. And paper bears do not exist. Russia is a real bear.'
Zelensky positively assessed Trump's change of stance, calling it a 'great change'. However, it is still unclear whether the US president is ready to take concrete actions, including sanctions that Ukraine has been so desperately requesting.
The residents of Ukraine express skepticism towards Trump's words.
'It's just another opinion from Trump that changes every hour,'- said Bohdan Tkachuk.
Svitlana Fetisova, whose son died on the front line defending Ukraine, added:
'I want to see more help, more actions, and not just words.'Her words underscore the suffering of the Ukrainian nation:
'I really want to believe that it is true and that the country responsible for maintaining peace in the world will return to us.'
In the situation that has arisen, the Kremlin's response to Trump's support for Ukraine indicates a continuation of the conflict and escalation of tension. It is important to monitor further statements from both sides, as they can significantly impact the future of diplomatic relations and security in the region. Ukrainian society awaits concrete actions that will confirm words of support from international partners. Read also
