Conflict in the Middle East Boosts Putin’s Oil and Gas Revenue, Says Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister.
Xavier Bettel Voices Alarm Over Energy Market Trends
According to UATV: Luxembourg’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, has raised concerns that current conditions in global energy markets are benefiting Russian President Vladimir Putin. He argues that the international community’s focus on the Middle East is drawing attention away from the ongoing war in Ukraine.
According to Bettel, Putin is now earning more from Russian gas and oil sales. These additional funds, the minister stated, are being channeled directly into sustaining the conflict in Ukraine:
“Now he is making more money from Russian gas and oil. And that money is being used in the war in Ukraine.” – Xavier Bettel
Global Response and Strategic Shifts
At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump is working to assemble a new international coalition aimed at forcibly reopening the Strait of Hormuz. These efforts unfold against the backdrop of the protracted conflict in Ukraine, which continues to dominate international policy discussions.
Bettel’s remarks underscore the critical role of energy dynamics in global politics, illustrating how economic resources can directly fuel military operations. Despite other regional crises, the situation in Ukraine remains a top priority for international relations—a reality that may compel world leaders to reassess their foreign policy strategies and priorities.
