Leader of the German opposition calls for EU unity in dialogue with the USA.
Europeans need to speak to the USA more forcefully and in agreement - Friedrich Merz
The leader of the German opposition and candidate for Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Friedrich Merz, called on Europeans to speak to the United States with one voice and from strong, agreed positions. He emphasized that before visiting the American capital, every European leader should try to coordinate their positions with other countries of the European Union. This will help the EU become a strong partner for the USA and ensure a unified European position in negotiations. Merz also highlighted the importance of protecting common interests and conducting negotiations from a position of strength.
Merz cited the situation from the first term of Trump, when Europe managed to resolve the issue of tariffs and duties through united actions and the introduction of its own tariffs on American goods. He urged European countries to act together and find a common solution to address similar issues in communication with the USA.
Friedrich Merz noted that he has not yet communicated with the new president of the USA, but he sent him a letter on the occasion of the inauguration.
