G7 Leaders Agree: Putin Refuses to End the War Despite 60% of Russians Wanting Peace.
Ukraine’s Stance at the G7 Summit
According to Novyny.live: During the G7 summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the bloc’s leaders recognize Russia has no intention of ending its war against Ukraine, even though over 60% of the Russian population desires a halt to hostilities. He shared this assessment while discussing battlefield conditions and potential paths to peace with international partners.
Zelenskyy described the negotiations with Ukraine’s G7 allies as highly productive.
“Today at the G7 summit, we saw genuine unanimity. Everyone was on the right side, and it’s good that we all receive the same intelligence. All G7 leaders understand that Putin does not want to stop this war,” he emphasized.
According to him, Ukraine must continue applying pressure on the Kremlin to force a shift in Russia’s aggressive policies.
“If there are heavy losses, you have to stop… But in any case, better late than never. More than 60% of Russian society wants this war to end. That is why we need greater pressure on Putin,” Zelenskyy noted.
Joint Conclusions by G7 Leaders
The G7 leaders also reached a shared conclusion that Russia has lost its battlefield advantage, a key point in the discussions. The Ukrainian president has ruled out traveling to Moscow for talks with Vladimir Putin, underscoring the severity of the situation and Kyiv’s resolve to defend its interests.
Ukraine’s position remains firm: despite the desire for peace among a significant portion of the Russian public, Kyiv will not compromise with the aggressor as long as fighting continues. In this context, sustained support from international partners is critical, as pressure on Russia could influence its domestic politics and reduce aggression. The G7 summit showcased global unity in backing Ukraine’s fight for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
