According to Espreso.tv: Russia and North Korea are putting the final touches on a road bridge that could serve military purposes. The span will connect the Russian settlement of Khasan with North Korea’s Tumangan. Construction began after a treaty was signed in June 2024 and is now largely complete, though work on the Russian side is still ongoing. Pyongyang has already finished its portion of the crossing.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Moscow is seeking an additional 30,000 North Korean troops from Pyongyang, along with new ballistic missile launchers. These statements highlight the potential military dimension of the bridge project, as growing defense cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang could have serious security repercussions for the region. More than 14,000 North Korean soldiers have already fought in Russia’s Kursk region, underscoring the depth of their military alignment.

As analyst Nazar Myhun noted, “trucks almost always look the same on satellite images,” suggesting that the project may be linked to shifts in military logistics.

The bridge’s budget has exceeded $100 million, reflecting the project’s seriousness. In 2024, bilateral trade stood at roughly $34 million, signaling expanding economic ties between the two countries.
