Oncologist Under Investigation for Surgical Error
According to TSN.ua: An oncologist in the Dnipropetrovsk region is suspected of professional negligence after a surgical towel was left inside a patient's body. The procedure took place at a medical center in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Following her discharge, the patient began to complain of a worsening condition and a high fever.
The foreign object, a surgical towel, was discovered three months after the operation during an ultrasound examination. A forensic medical commission concluded there was a direct causal link between the medical error and the severe consequences for the patient's health. Consequently, the doctor's actions have been classified under Part 1 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which deals with professional negligence.
