Ex-APL star Townsend impresses on the pitch in Thailand: which field fans compare to golf.
Andros Townsend has caused excitement among fans
According to The Sun: The former Premier League winger Andros Townsend has become a topic of discussion among fans after videos emerged online showing him playing on a field resembling a 'golf course'.
The 34-year-old player, who previously played for Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Everton, is currently playing in Thailand for Kanchanaburi City Power.
TikTok/saritlun_inTownsend made a surprising move earlier this year after a brief stint in Turkey with Antalyaspor, and fans were stunned by his appearance in such an unusual setting.
However, what impressed people the most was not only the landscape but also the condition of the pitch.
Footage from the recent Kanchanaburi Power game went viral on social media, showing Townsend navigating past defenders on a field with sparse grass coverage and an uneven surface.
Fans on X (formerly Twitter) couldn’t believe their eyes. One wrote:
“He went from Goodison Park to a field that resembles a Sunday amateur pitch.”
Another user remarked:
“Honestly thought this was a Driving Range. Looks like a golf course.”
Townsend, who has 13 caps for the England national team and once scored from 20 yards in a match against Italy, has yet to comment on this viral video.
Career status and new challenges
In August, he joined Kanchanaburi Power in search of regular playing time after several seasons plagued by injuries in England and a brief overseas stint.
Throughout his career, Townsend has played over 250 matches in the Premier League and gained popularity due to his powerful left foot and long-range shots.

Despite the criticism regarding the state of the pitch, Townsend seems to be enjoying life in Thailand, regularly sharing updates from his training and matches.
Upon joining Kanchanaburi Power in August, he noted:
“At the end of last season, I was playing in Turkey, and I hadn't been paid for several months.”
“The club told me 'you can get your salary - but you'll never play for the club again'. So, I took the salary.”
“I hadn't played since March, so I was a bit frustrated, and in the summer told Merlon [my agent], that I didn't care where I went, just take me somewhere that's interesting and tropical.”
“He came back with one or two options in Europe, but for some reason my heart was set on the option in Thailand.”
Thus, Townsend's journey in the world of football continues, and although his playing conditions are subject to criticism, the player remains optimistic about his sporting future. It remains to be seen how his career will unfold in a new environment and whether he can showcase his talent to those drawing attention to players outside the top leagues.
