Macron and Starmer on the end of Maduro's regime: how European leaders supported changes in Venezuela.
According to ТСН: Leaders of France and the United Kingdom expressed support for a "peaceful and democratic" transition of power in Venezuela. These statements were made on social media platform X against the backdrop of news about the possible end of Nicolas Maduro's regime.
Leaders' Statements
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that his country has long supported the transfer of power in Venezuela and does not recognize Maduro as a legitimate president. He also noted that in the coming days, the British government plans to discuss the situation in the country with American partners to find a "safe and peaceful way to transfer power to a legitimate government that reflects the will of the Venezuelan people".
President Emmanuel Macron stated that the Venezuelan people are "now free from the dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro". He emphasized that by seizing power and violating fundamental freedoms, Maduro has "seriously undermined the dignity of his own people".
It is worth noting that Maduro is currently in New York, where he is being prepared for a trial.
These statements from international leaders reflect a growing support for changes in Venezuela amid prolonged political and economic crises. The transition to new leadership could open a new chapter for Venezuelan society, which has suffered for many years from the consequences of authoritarian rule. The coming weeks could be decisive for the country's future.
