Macron conveyed to Trump the need for Europe to participate in U.S. negotiations with Russia, considering European security interests.
Last Saturday, Macron met with Donald Trump at the Élysée Palace for an hour. Later, Volodymyr Zelensky joined them for another 30 minutes of negotiations.
The French proposal involves creating a peacekeeping mission with around 40,000 troops (five brigades), one of which could be commanded by Poland. The mission is to protect a potential ceasefire.
On Monday, during a meeting in Kyiv with Friedrich Merz, leader of CDU/CSU, Zelensky first mentioned the possibility of such a peacekeeping mission as a temporary alternative to NATO guarantees.
