Macron urged the US to impose new sanctions against Russia over Putin's avoidance.
According to FREEДOM:
France's reaction to Russia's actions
French President Emmanuel Macron believes that the United States should take action if Russian leader Vladimir Putin continues to avoid meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. These words from Macron were voiced after a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as reported by FREEДОМ, citing Le Figaro.
Deadline for negotiations
Macron emphasized that if an agreement on negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv is not reached by September 1, it cannot go without consequences.
'We will communicate with President Donald Trump. And if next week we have to state that once again, after months of unfulfilled promises, nothing has happened — we will clearly call for the introduction of primary and secondary sanctions,' said Macron.
Consequences of the armed conflict
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz previously noted that in the event of Ukraine's capitulation, Putin may begin preparing for new aggression.
The position of France and Germany indicates the seriousness of the situation surrounding the conflict in Ukraine. Both countries are calling for action, unlike the lack of progress in negotiations, which may indicate an escalation of the situation and the need for urgent international efforts to achieve peace.
