Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Observations at the Nice Match

According to The Sun: Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the minority owner of Manchester United, was spotted at a match for his other team Nice, despite his recent controversial comments.

Ratcliffe, aged 72, and his company Ineos acquired Manchester United in 2024, gaining control over the club's sports management. He already owns the French club Nice and Lausanne.

Challenging Situation in Nice

Lately, Sir Jim has been actively attending Manchester United matches. Recently, he flew in for a meeting with coach Ruben Amorim following a rough start to the season.

Meanwhile, he does not often attend Nice matches. However, this time he decided to watch a Ligue 1 game, in which Nice lost to Roma 2-1 at the Allianz Riviera stadium.

Cameras caught his disappointment in the VIP section.

This came after Ratcliffe got into trouble for his criticism of Nice and French football.

Ratcliffe recently noted: “I don't particularly enjoy going to Nice matches because there are good players, but the level of football isn't high enough to excite me.”

This criticism was responded to by Nice coach Frank Haise.

Haise replied: “The article in which these comments appeared was much more comprehensive than this. But he hasn't seen any Nice matches this season.”

“He is talking about what he has seen at other times. We are here to promote the development of the club and to become even better.”

“It's not that serious of a problem. We can be frustrated, that's understandable. But is it worth staying frustrated for long?”

Owner Acknowledges His Mistakes

Despite the issues, Nice has shown decent results, finishing fourth in the league last season and reaching the quarter-finals of the Conference League in 2024.

Ratcliffe admitted that he made “a few very silly decisions” both in Nice and Lausanne, which he acquired in 2019 and 2017 respectively.

Sir Jim said last year: “We made a few very silly decisions in both clubs.”
“There are many organizations in the world where, if you make a mistake, you can be fired, so no one takes risks.”
“But at INEOS, we don’t care if people make mistakes – but please, don’t repeat the same mistakes again.”
“So, we have much less sympathy when the same mistakes are made twice.”

“We made mistakes in football, so I am very glad we made them before coming here to Manchester United.”

“If we hadn't, this job would be significantly harder.”

Recent events suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is trying to find a balance between his tasks in Nice and Manchester. His thoughts on French football have caused some tension, but he acknowledges his mistakes, which may indicate a willingness to change in both clubs. It is important that his future actions align with his commitments to the development of the club and football in general.
