According to UATV: On March 28, 2023, Russia launched a large-scale assault on Odesa using 60 drones, resulting in two deaths and 12 injuries. The attack specifically targeted civilian infrastructure, causing severe damage to residential buildings, a maternity hospital, and several educational and preschool facilities. This incident highlights the ongoing threat to urban centers in Ukraine amid the broader conflict.
The destruction was extensive. Dozens of homes suffered serious damage, with one apartment nearly completely burned down. At the maternity hospital, patients and medical staff were shaken but physically unharmed. Witnesses described harrowing scenes during the assault, underscoring the terror faced by civilians.
“We just couldn’t put out the fire. No matter what we did. The horror when it hit here was indescribable,” said a resident of the devastated apartment.
Other survivors recounted similar devastation:
- “Cabinets fell over, and when we walked in, we saw all the windows blown out. Even the furniture was broken in half,” Lyudmyla and Oleksandr reported.
- “My husband got a few scratches, the cats were terrified immediately. And, of course, the apartment was wrecked,” Anastasiia added.
The tragedy in Odesa underscores the severity of the situation in the region and the urgent need for international support to protect civilians.
