Large-Scale Fire in Lutsk Following Drone Attack
According to UATV: A major fire broke out in Lutsk on April 1, 2023, after a Russian Shahed drone strike. The attack caused significant destruction, particularly at warehouse facilities and a residential building. No casualties were reported during the incident, but the situation required an immediate emergency response.
An air raid alert was issued in the Volyn region at 6:00 AM. Residents of Lutsk first heard explosions at 6:30 AM, with the final blast occurring at 7:30 AM. Fires erupted at multiple locations, including:
- A logistics terminal
- A food warehouse
- A nine-story apartment building, damaged by drone debris
The combined area of the fires at two industrial warehouses spanned several thousand square meters.
To ensure student safety, classes at schools, a kindergarten, and a vocational college were canceled, with children switching to remote learning. Local authorities advised residents to stay indoors due to air pollution. Eyewitnesses described the scene as terrifying.
“It was booming and shooting like crazy! Such explosions! The last one was at 7:30 AM,” said Filimon Stepchuk.
City officials have already begun assisting those affected.
“We have spoken with residents of two damaged apartments. We explained the compensation procedure from the Lutk City Council and the cost of repair work. There is no information about any injuries,” reported Kateryna Shkleda.
Meanwhile, Natalia Hat emphasized the importance of organizing safety for children: “So that the children are safe and sound, and the situation is properly managed both at the educational institution and on the school grounds.”
Local Government Response
The drone attack has prompted local authorities and law enforcement to strengthen security measures in the region. The situation remains under control, but residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow official updates.
This strike on Lutsk highlights the growing threat from Russian drones, part of a broader aggressive strategy in the conflict. Authorities are actively responding to ensure public safety and support those impacted by the attack. Bolstering regional security is a necessary step to prevent similar incidents in the future, especially given the proximity of civilian infrastructure to potential targets. Providing aid to local residents and safeguarding their rights remain key priorities in the recovery process.
